Sometimes we find that our gear is not ready for the task, and our rod tubes are no exception.  So, we started to repurpose the rod tube from the Hermosa Bar Bag system as a standalone fly rod tube. 

If you are venturing into remote fishing spots, the Hermosa Rod Tube is your tool.  With a cover made from Challenge Sailcloth, the tube is rugged and grippy enough to hang onto your pack in those tricky situations.  No more having your metal rod tube slide out of the side of your pack.

The Hermosa Rod Tube was designed initially as part of the Hermosa Bar Bag system to secure fly rods to a mountain bike.   The hoop section of a Velcro strip is attached to the center of the rod tube for attachment to the Hermosa Bar Bag.  The Hermosa Handle can be attached to the Velcro strip to make a carry hand or provide an adjustable lashing point to secure your rod.

Key uses include:

  • Backpacking and hiking - the durable sailcloth shell provides significant friction on a pack to secure the rod tube.
  • Second rod tube for Hermosa Bar Bag - the Hermosa Bar Bag has plenty of room to secure two rod tubes. Use this rod tube to take an extra rod tube for clients, friends, or children.
  • General purpose rod tube - being lightweight and highly durable, the Hermosa Rod Tube is excellent as a standalone rod tube.

The Hermosa Rod Tube comes in three sizes to fit 4-piece fly rods:  8-foot, 9-foot, and 10-foot.

Weight: 8 foot - 600 gram or 21 oz., 9 foot - 660 grams or 23 oz, 10 foot - 900 grams or 32 oz. All weights are approximate.

Rob tube length: 8 foot - 25.5 inches or 650 mm, 9 foot - 29 inches or 740 mm, 10 foot - 32.5 inches or 825 mm. All lengths are approximate.

Rob tube diameter: approximately 2 inches or 50 mm

Materials

We craft the Hermosa Bar Bag from the highest quality fabrics not found in your typical fishing or biking gear.

Rod tube shell: EPX400 by Challenge Sailcloth. EPX400 is made from 100% recycled polyester with a reinforced “X” pattern weaved into the fabric. Twice as abrasion-resistant as comparable nylon. Waterproof to 200 PSI.

Rod tube interior: Lightweight PVC.

As much as possible, we use recycled, US-made components in the Hermosa Bar Bag.

Compatibility

Compatible with Hermosa Bar Bag harness.

Compatible with most fly rods without a fighting butt.

Compatible with four piece fly rods. All sizing is based four piece, tip over butt fly rods.
